I usually have a 'general feel' when I start, but in this story it guides every scene. I really hope I don't end up beating my readers with it! I certainly didn't write my story with a theme in mind. But... now that I look at it, both the current & previous ms have similar themes in the character arcs - standing up for self and loved ones kind of stuff.
