Posted on December 23rd, 2009 9 commentsBook Review: How To Stop Backing Down and Start Talking Back
By Lisa Frankfort and Patrick FanningThis is a short, easy-to-read book with 50 tips on how to be assertive in almost any situation.
Do authority figures automatically make you back down and take a passive stance? Do you get pinned down for hours by the office gabber? Do you have trouble standing up for what you want? This book has not only simple, effective answers, but lots of humour to put the laughs in self-help.
This book is great for anyone seeking the words, body language, or simple tools and methods to help them become a more assertive person. It’s a great, must-read guide for any teen girl.

This book sounds intriguing. Do you think there’s a sequel. I need to read HOW TO BACK OFF & SHUT UP, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE.
Or maybe there’s a hotline for that?

This sounds like the book for me – forget the teenage girls
I haven’t learned that “no” word and it makes my life crazy!! I’ve gotten better, but still have a loooong way to go.Jenny & Jean – you crack me up!
Have a wonderful Christmas

This book sounds like it would be good for girls of ALL ages. Just might check it out.
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Jean! I bet your wonderful review will be the best Christmas gift I receive this year. Thank you so much!
My hope with the book was for it to be useful and realistic. You shouldn’t have to read a ten pound tome in order to get something out of it. Also, small changes can have a big impact. I wanted the reader to be able to find a situation that resonated for them, and then be able to fairly easily put a suggestion into practice.
Oh, and I’m happy to consider a sequel – as a therapist I love “interesting” case studies (strokes chin, looks wise) lol. When I was in grad school, I had a friend who wanted to write a book for couples called, “Why the F Can’t You Hear Me?” Not sure whatever became of that . . .;-)
Happy holidays!
Lisa:-))
